After you add a map to a book page, the locations associated with your photos are automatically displayed on the map. Data associated with your photos comes from Places. For more information about using Places, see Places overview.
You can manually add locations, place marker text, direction lines, and more to a map.
To add a location to a map using the location name:

The book pages appear in All Pages view.

Click the Options button in the toolbar.

Double-click the page that contains the map.
The page spread appears with the page selected.

Select the map.
Important: Be sure to select the map, not the page.
In the Options pane, click the Add (+) button below the Places list.

Type the first few letters of the name of the new location, and then select one of the suggested matches.
After you pick a location, a marker and the location name appear on the map, and the location appears in the Places list in the Options pane.
To add a location to a map and manually name the location:

The book pages appear in All Pages view.

Click the Options button in the toolbar.

Double-click the page that contains the map.
The page spread appears with the page selected.

Select the map.
Important: Be sure to select the map, not the page.

Press the Control key while you click a location on the map, and then choose Add Place from the shortcut menu.
A marker and “New Place” text appear on the map, and the location appears in the Places list in the Options pane.

Click the text field on the map, and then type a name or description in the text field.
You can also format the text using the text formatting tools that appear in the area on the right.
To hide or show a location on a map:
You can hide a location and then easily show it again later.

The book pages appear in All Pages view.

Click the Options button in the toolbar.

Double-click the page that contains the map.
The page spread appears with the page selected.

Select the map.
Important: Be sure to select the map, not the page.
In the Options pane, deselect or select a location’s checkbox in the Places list.
To add direction lines on a map:
You can add lines that indicate a path or direction to two or more locations on a map.

The book pages appear in All Pages view.

Click the Options button in the toolbar.

Double-click the page that contains the map.
The page spread appears with the page selected.

Select the map.
Important: Be sure to select the map, not the page.

In the Options pane, choose a line style from the Line pop-up menu.
Note: To add lines, a map must contain two or more locations.
The lines appear in the order in which the locations appear in the Places list.
To change the order in which the lines connect the locations, reorder the Places list by dragging a location up or down in the list.
To show round-trip direction lines, select the “Return to Starting Place” checkbox.
To hide or show place marker text on a map:
Place marker text (often the name of a location) is shown by default. You can hide place marker text, and easily turn it back on again at any time.

In the Options pane, deselect or select the Place Marker Text checkbox.
To rename a map location:

Click the Options button in the toolbar.

Double-click the page that contains the map.
The page spread appears with the page selected.

Select the map.
Important: Be sure to select the map, not the page.

In the Options pane, double-click a location name in the Places list and type a new name.
If you change the name of a location that was set by Places, the name changes only on the map.
To remove a location from a map:

The book pages appear in All Pages view.

Click the Options button in the toolbar.

Double-click the page that contains the map.
The page spread appears with the page selected.

Select the map.
Important: Be sure to select the map, not the page.
In the Options pane, select the location in the Places list.

Click the Delete (-) button.
The location is deleted only from this map. It is not deleted from other maps in the book or from a photo or an Event.
