You can share your photos online by publishing them directly from iPhoto to Flickr, a website where you can post photos for free. Before you can publish photos from iPhoto to Flickr, you need a Flickr account. You also need a free Yahoo account, but you can use a Flickr screen name that is different from your Yahoo ID.
To set up a Flickr account:
Choose iPhoto > Preferences, and then click Accounts.
Click the Add (+) button in the lower-left corner of the Accounts pane.
Click Flickr and then click Add.
Click Set Up and follow the onscreen instructions.
On the iPhoto Uploader page, click Next (below “If you arrived at this page because you specifically asked iPhoto Uploader to connect to your Flickr account”).
Click “OK I’ll Authorize It.”
To publish your photos to Flickr:
Select the photos you want to publish.
In the toolbar, click the Share button, and then choose Flickr from the pop-up menu.
Click the set (what Flickr calls albums) you want to add your photos to (if you have more than one Flickr set), or click New Set. You can also click Photostream.
-
If you selected New Set and you want to specify who can view your photos on Flickr, choose an option from the “Photos Viewable by” pop-up menu. If you have a Pro Flickr account, you can also choose an option from the “Photo size” pop-up menu.
The size you choose depends on whether you expect your viewers to download and print your photos.
-
Click Publish.
To view your published photos, click your Flickr account in the Source list (below Web).
When you visit the Flickr website, you can move additional photos into this set on the website. Then, when you sync the published album in iPhoto, these photos appear in your iPhoto album, sized for quick downloading.
You can see whether you published a photo to Flickr. Select the photo, click the Info button in the toolbar, and look in the Sharing section. (If you don’t see a Sharing section, you haven’t shared the photo.)
To view your published photos on the web:
-
Click your Flickr account in the Source list.
If you’re in full-screen view, click Albums in the toolbar, and then scroll down to the Flickr section.
Double-click the album you want.
At the top of the iPhoto window, click the arrow next to the album’s name.
Tip: To check whether a photo has been published, select the photo and click the Info button in the toolbar; the Info pane (below Sharing) indicates where the photo has been published.
To delete published photos or sets (albums) from Flickr:
When you delete photos from Flickr that you had published from iPhoto, they no longer appear on Flickr, but they remain in your photo library.
Click your Flickr account in the Source list.
-
Do one of the following:
-
To delete the entire set, select it and then press Command-Delete.
If you want the images to remain in your Flickr photostream, click Delete Set. Otherwise, click “Delete Set and Photos” to delete the set and to remove the images from your Flickr photostream.
If you moved photos to this set from within Flickr, iPhoto asks if you want to import them into iPhoto before the set is deleted. Only web-sized versions are imported.
To delete specific photos, open the set, select the photos, and then press the Delete key.
