Ways to view and organize photos

iPhoto organizes all your photos in the iPhoto library. When you import your photos, they’re automatically grouped into Events, based on the time and date they were taken.

For more information about Events, see the topics in the Events section.

In the Source list (along the left side of the iPhoto window, shown above), you see everything in your photo library, from the photos you imported last night to all your projects (books, cards, and calendars), slideshows, and published albums you created with your photos. You can easily customize the Source list.

You can further view and organize your photos in a host of ways to suit your needs. For example, Photos view shows “thumbnails”—small versions—of all your photos, divided by Event if you want. Double-click any thumbnail to see the photo it represents.

Faces view groups photos of your favorite people, and suggests new matches as you import new photos. As with Events, you can “skim” these photo groups and choose a key photo for each. For more information about Faces, see the topics in the Faces section.

Places view groups your photos by the place you took them, and marks those locations on a map. For more information about Places, see the topics in the Places section.
